The Oceania Weightlifting Federation has organised an online competition for its athletes in the region.

This is for them to have more game time prior to the Oceania Championship scheduled to be held in Nauru in November. Weightlifting Fiji president Della Shaw-Elder said they were grateful that they were given the green light to hold competitions after being accredited by the Fiji National Sports Commission last Thursday. “Weighlifting Fiji is very happy that we have been accredited so we can happily say that we can train freely and we can run competitions but with conditions,” she said.

“Our general secretary went to Levuka last week so we have already started our training at our satellite centre there.

“And next week we will start in Suva and our other two centres.

“We are looking forward to that and also the online competition on July 16-17.

“This online competition is to give us more game time competition because we can’t travel,” she added. The top seven female and male from the centres will be chosen to represent Fiji in the six months long online competition.

Our first competition is against Papua New Guinea and after that they will let us know who we will be competing next,”she said.

“We are going to have a meeting and make the decision on local competitions.”

The Oceania online weightlifting competition is recognised by the International Weightlifting Federation.
