Fiji National University (FNU) has enabled MPAiSA mobile payment option for its students across all campuses Fiji wide. The Acting Vice-Chancellor of FNU, Professor James Pounder said “We would like to offer our students greater convenience and flexibility to make their payments from wherever and whenever without the need to queue up at the cashier counters. Access “on the go” through mobile phones provides students with this 24x 7 convenient payments service. “We are also moving towards a “cashless campus” initiative to reduce the handling of cash on campus. “This to ensure the risks of carrying such large amounts of cash to students as well as staff is minimised as they could be a target for theft.

“Student fees can run into thousands of dollars depending on the courses and number of units they undertake and paying them electronically significantly reduces the risk.

For FNU, the less cash it handles, the better it is for the institution. With campuses spread across the country, the M-PAiSA cashless payment option brings about greater efficiency and control over FNU’s collections and receipts.

FNU will enable the M-PAiSA QR code (on-counter) payment option as well as the remote payment option whereby students can use the M-PAiSA App to make the payment of their fees at any time and from anywhere.

The campus will also enable the M-PAiSA QR cashless payment option at all restaurants and coffee shop around the campus to make it convenient for students.

Furthermore, quite a few of the FNU students receive the TSLB allowance directly on their mobile through M-PAISA.

Accessing allowance

These students will no longer need to cash out their allowance to make payments to FNU as they will be able to make payment directly through M-PAiSA. Head of Vodafone eCommerce, Shailendra Prasad said, “For students, M-PAiSA offers a lot of benefits.

Firstly, there are no fees and charges for using the M-PAiSA service to make payments to FNU. “Students can also use M-PAiSA to pay their water and electricity bills as well as top up their mobile phones with bonus top and data.”

All Vodafone and Inkk mobile users can use the MPAiSA service simply by downloading the M-PAiSA App.
