JUDGE GRANTS TIME FOR DEFENCE TO FILE VOIR DIRE IN MURDER CASE

- SALOTE QALUBAU Edited by Ranoba Baoa

The High Court in Lautoka has granted lawyer Anishni Chand to file voir dire grounds for her client, Mohammed Aiyaz Ahmed who is charged with murder.

The matter was called before Justice Chamath Morais yesterday and the state was represented by Rajshneel Chand.

Ahmed is alleged to have murdered 32-year-old Shabina Nisha. She was found covered in blood at her Drasa home in Lautoka last year by a neighbour.

The court heard that the state was yet to submit the post-mortem report to the defence lawyer.

Mr Chand said the state had filed two sets of disclosures and that the post-mortem report was included in one of the disclosures. However, he was yet to serve them to the defence lawyer.

The court heard that the state had also received the accused’s bail application and sought time to respond.

Justice Morais adjourned the case to July 30 for mention.
