Giv­ing Fi­jians Hope Amid COVID-19

Courts is the only store Fi­jians can rely on dur­ing the COVID-19 pan­demic, so says Courts chief mar­ket­ing of­fi­cer Anil Se­newiratne. Mr Se­newiratne made the as­sur­ance dur­ing the Courts 100th an­niver­sary launch at their Rod­well Road store in Suva last month. “Dur­ing this pan­demic, gone are the days of mar­ketable skills; Courts is the only one stop shop that can as­sist you start your own busi­ness,” Mr Se­newiratne said. “The most af­fected sec­tor is tourism. With Courts a chef can walk into any of our store to pur­chase ev­ery­thing he needs from bak­ing dishes to stoves in­clud­ing other ap­pli­ances to his busi­ness,” he said.

“Like­wise for one who is a main­te­nance worker Courts can as­sist him or her start their own join­ery or to even to start a car wash. “Should you want to be a tai­lor we have sewing ma­chines and the works. We can ac­com­mo­date for ev­ery­one.

“There is an abun­dance of tal­ents and skills for Fi­jians to run their small busi­nesses.”

Help­ing com­mu­ni­ties ac­quire durable house­hold goods at af­ford­able rates to en­hance their liveli­hood the last 100 years is a cause for cel­e­bra­tion.

Chief op­er­at­ing of­fi­cer Hamendra Prasad and Mr Se­newiratne were joined by shop­pers and young­sters at the launch which was also an op­por­tu­nity for cus­tomers to get the Red Pen deal. There were also cook­ing demon­stra­tions.

“Courts have been part of the com­mu­nity since 1920 as much as the com­mu­nity has been part of us,” he said.

“Our cus­tomers have been shop­ping with Courts for gen­er­a­tions as Courts was the first to in­tro­duce hire pur­chase to help com­mu­ni­ties ac­quire house­hold goods at af­ford­able rates to en­hance their liveli­hood,” he said. Courts trad­ing his­tory goes back when it ac­quired Burns Philip Group (BPG) in 2004; BPG has been trad­ing in the Fiji and the Pa­cific since 1920.

Courts was the first to in­tro­duce the easy pay­ment con­sumer fi­nance scheme. Cus­tomers can now use the Courts app to view prod­ucts, pur­chase, check ac­count de­tails.
