Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing, Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu says the 2020-2021 National Budget is beyond his expectation.

This follows the national budget announcement by the AttorneyGeneral and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, on Friday night.

The Ministry of Defence, National Security and Policing was allocated $13.8 million and the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development $16.6 million. Mr Seruiratu said he was thankful

for what the ministries were provided.

“No complaints. All we need to do is continue to work smarter within the allocations that they have given. Do more with less,” Mr Seruiratu said.

He said the allocations met the submissions made by the ministries to the Ministry of Economy. “We very well understood the situation we were in when we made our submission.

“The Ministry of Economy took into consideration the priority areas and particularly the need for us to strengthen our security arrangements, which is very critical for a developing country, particularly during this difficult times, at the same time to ensure that no one is left behind, particularly continuing with rural development and providing services to those in remote and rural areas and maritime islands.”
