Household rubbish an eyesore
Household rubbish found dumped along Daniva road in Valelevu is becoming an eyesore for vendors operating in the vicinity.
Pineapple vendor, Shonal Nand has been running his business along the road for almost 10 years. He said the household items didn’t belong to the vendors, but other people.
“This rubbish has been here for quite a while now. One morning I came and saw the large pile and we do not know who exactly is dumping the rubbish here,” he said. “Because of the rubbish, there’s always a bad smell coming from the pile and I am not sure if the Council will look into the matter.”

Village in Tailevu to sell ivi (Tahitian nut) just a few metres away from the dump.
“I’m here selling only during the ivi season and so last season in March there was a huge pile of rubbish here. The Nasinu Town Council came and investigated and they were able to clear out the rubbish,” she said.
“After they cleared it, again the pile returned. The vendors are not doing it because after a day’s work, we all take our rubbish to the yellow bin near MaxValue supermarket to discard it there.
“And if you see it’s clearly household items that are thrown here and the smell is getting out of hand.”
Efforts to get a comment from the Nasinu Town Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Nimatari Colaudolu, were unsuccessful.
