Captain Cook Cruises Offer Local Specials
Captain Cook Cruises has opened up day cruises on weekends under the Love Our Locals campaign. Company director and operations manager Alifereti Koroilavesau said comments from guests who went on the first cruise last weekend showed people wanted to enjoy something different.
The company’s schooner Spirit of the Pacific, which holds up to 100 passengers, was being used to take guests from Port Denarau to Tivua Island.
The cruise takes less than half an hour. “We have dropped the price for our locals, which is below our operating budget, but we are doing this to give the crew some work and to turn the local economy,” Mr Koroilavesau said.
The boat leaves the marina at 10am every Saturday and Sunday, and returns at 5pm. The cruise offers morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, costs of which are covered in the travel package.
Activities on the island
On the island, guests can enjoy paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkelling, reef viewing from glass bottom boats and swimming.
For those who are interested in local medicine, the island has two marine biologists, who will also help those interested in taking a ‘medicine walk’ around the island.
“The medicine walk is special in that people can get to know of the many local medicinal plants we have on the island.” Mr Koroilavesau said the company was hoping to re-launch the dinner cruise product, althought demand would determine this.
Guests comments from last week zeroed in the food, service and activities with one Anare Bolanavanua of Suva saying: “For one moment we did not even think of COVID-19.
“Best trip ever.”
