Castaway Island Resort Goes Local
Castaway Island Resort is offering locals a once in a lifetime chance to experience the leisures of a tourism property.
The resort, one of the pioneers in the Mamanucas and long a favourite for Australians and New Zealanders, is slashing rates to welcome locals.
From July 31, the resort reopens on weekends in support of Tourism Fiji’s Love Our Locals campaign.
Resort general manager, Steven Andrews, said the local rates were unheard of, considering the bure rates pre COVID-19 were $1300 a night.
He said: “This is a neverbefore offer.”
“Thirty per cent of guests that come here are returnees.”
Castaway Island Resort is also ready to cater for weekday bookings as long as it involves groups of 10 or more.
The Island Bures will be available, although guests who want to be upgraded to the either the Ocean View or Beach bures will have to pay extra.
“The great thing about the local rates is that the boat transfer from Port Denarau Marina to Castaway Island Resort and return are included,” Mr Andrews said.
He said the resort looked after its staff when COVID-19 prompted the temporary close of the island destination.
“We have continued to pay all our employees 75 per cent of their normal pay.

Local rate is $300 a night for two adults and two children under 12 at the Island Bure. The rates includes continental breakfast and the use of non-motorised sport.
Boat transfers to and from Port Denarau Maina are also covered in the accommodation rates.
Since the resort would be opened from Friday to Monday, guests have an option to stay a third night at an extra $200.
All meals will be priced from $10 to $30.
Pay $25 to upgrade to Ocean View Bure or $35 for an extra a night at the Beach Bure.
