Chiefs star Damian McKenzie has been named Super Rugby away player of the decade and eight New Zealanders have been named in the combined team.

Along with them is burly Fijian winger Nemani Nadolo who is to play for Leicester Tigers in England, next season.

Super Rugby organisers crunched the numbers for performances on the road over the past 10 years and have come up with a diverse side.

McKenzie scored 20+ points in an away game on seven occasions since debuting in 2015 - more than any other player - and he has been directly involved in 24 tries in his last 18 games away from home in the competition (10 tries, 14 try assists).

He is joined in the team by former Crusaders wing Nadolo, former Blues centre Charles Piutau, the Hurricanes inside backs pairing of Beauden Barrett and TJ Perenara, former Blues flanker Luke Braid and Chiefs lock Brodie Retallick.

Since 2010 Super Rugby has been dominated by New Zealand teams with the Kiwis taking seven of the 10 titles. The New Zealand teams’ abilities to win a high percentage of away matches has led to their success and is reflected in these selections.

No Crusader player has scored multiple tries in an away game more times in the last decade than Nadolo (3).

Super Rugby away from home Team of the Decade: 15 Damian McKenzie, 14 James Lowe, 13 Charles Piutau, 12 Jan Serfontein, 11 Nemani Nadolo, 10 Beauden Barrett, 9 TJ Perenara, 8 Amanaki Mafi, 7 Luke Braid, 6 Sean McMahon, 5 Brodie Retallick, 4 RG Snyman, 3 Allan Alaalatoa, 2 Malcolm Marx, 1 Steven Kitshoff
