2020-2021 NATIONAL BUDGET: ENABLING FIJIANS TO ACHIEVE THEIR DREAM

-

The 2020-2021 National budget will help Fijians make their dream of owning a home come to reality.

This will be possible as eligible Fijians will be able to obtain a massive $30,000 grant to build their first home. That’s not all. Fijians intending to buy their first home will also be able to access a grant of $15,000. Consumer Council Chief Executive Officer Seema Shandil says: “A new home is one of the biggest investments of a lifetime and this grant will help Fijians build their future.

“This first home buyer programme is a testament of consumer inclusiveness in the budget as ordinary Fijians, earning less than $50,000 will be eligible for this grant.

“Fijians earning more than $50,000 have not been deprived of this grant either as they will be given $20,000 to build their first homes and $5,000 to purchase one.”

Ms Shandil says that numerous Fijians have already benefitted from this programme in the past budgets however, even with the country’s major revenue earnings down, the government has not only continued the programme, but has amplified it with a major increase in the grant amount.

“Previously, first home builders were eligible for a $15,000 grant, now we have a 100 per cent increase to $30,000, this is a tremendous initiative by the Government and the Council welcomes it as this will put the dream of homeownership within reach for thousands more Fijian families,” said Ms Shandil.
