Lead acid and Lithium danger
Lead acid batteries contain lead, a heavy metal with potentially dangerous health impacts.
Ingestion of lead is especially dangerous for young children because their brains are still developing. According to the World Health Organization, today around 85 per cent of the world’s lead consumption is for the production of leadacid batteries.
Lithium batteries, are found in hybrid vehicles. This metal is detrimental not only to marine life, and to humans as well.
Mr Wycliffe said hybrid vehicles reaching the end of their life is still some time away, but they still posed a problem.
