Government Scholarships

-

Dharmendra Kumar, Suva

Raising the qualifying standards for students to obtain a Fiji Government scholarship is a brilliant idea. Too many students were taking things for granted and not working hard enough.

The recipients of the TELS (Tertiary Education and Loan Scheme) scholarship are also misusing allowances.

Now students who earn marks above 250 on their Year 13 exams will only qualify. A workforce of smart high school and university graduates with relevant credentials is critical in the 21st century competitiveness. The 250 qualifying mark is not hard to obtain if you work hard, it’s an average of 63 marks for the best four subjects.

You get marks depending on the sacrifices and hard work you put into it, it’s not what mark you wish for.
