Labasa murder

-

Suva

I am shocked and baffled with the murder of the 13-year-old student of Labasa College. This has sent a shockwave throughout the community. It is so difficult to believe that an innocent student can be stabbed to death in such a horrific manner while she was alone at home waiting for her mother to return.

The landlord heard cries for help, but could do little to help her. It is mindboggling.

I have often heard of Labasa being referred to as the Friendly North. Maybe it is as the hospitality of the people of Labasa is par excellence.

However, I fail to comprehend the psychology of those who commit heinous crimes. The memory of the recent burning of four elderly women in Labasa is still fresh in our minds. And now this unthinkable crime happens. My deep condolence to the family and may the culprit be apprehended soon and brought before justice.

May her soul rest in peace.
