Labasa Multicultural Centre administrator, Prabha Naicker, couldn’t find words to describe the gruesome passing away of her student during her funeral at Navakasigani, Labasa. People came in numbers to farewell a student, daughter, sister, friend, Jiya Jaanvi, who was allegedly murdered on Wednesday night at Namara, Labasa.

She was a 14-year-old Year Nine student of Labasa College. Ms Naicker said Jiya was a member of the multicultural centre for the past eight years.

“We have lost a shinning star, a girl with good leadership skills, an intelligent child with good public speaking ability and a brilliant daughter with so many skills,” she said.

“She knew how to play tabla, harmonium and a few other musical instruments.”

Ms Naicker said Jiya was always interested in learning.

“All I can say is, we have lost a good artist who had a good experience of musical talent,” she said. “I have lost many people in my life, but this loss was more like my personal loss, I still can’t believe she is no longer with us, she was so close to me and my family.”

Police investigation into the matter continues.
