Police are investigating a burglary at the home of a 56-year-old farmer at Navakasigani Airport Road in Labasa on Saturday.

Abdul Hakim and his wife stay in Seaqaqa during the weekdays and on weekends they stay with their daughter at their Navakasigani home.

Mr Hakim said his daughter went to town at 11am that Saturday.

He said he was at the Labasa Sugar Mill when he received a call from his daughter. “Immediately I completed my work and rushed towards home,” he said.

“The person, who had done this, had switched off the main power point and entered inside the house from the back door.” He said the missing items were two laptops, four mobile phones, gold jewellery, clothes, a hunting rifle, chocolates and cosmetic items.

Mr Hakim said it’s estimated cost was more than $6000 excluding the hunting rifle.

“The person also opened the car, removed all the things kept in the bedroom, hanged the key back to its place and left the house,” he said.

“From outside no one can say that such an incident would have taken place.”

Mr Hakim said a similar incident happened last year in their Seaqaqa home.

“I am not worried about other stuff which are missing. I am only worried about the hunting rifle, because if the person misuses it,” he said.

“Who knows if one day he attacks someone from my family member.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the incident occurred between 11am to 2pm when the victim’s house was vacant. Anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activities between these hours is requested to call the Divisional Crime Officer North on 9904 267.
