Nadi garbage bins

-

The continuing grossly absence of civic pride and missing 3R rubbish bins from the various bus stop shelters along the Martintar-Namaka corridor is very troubling. I raised this issue many months ago. The Nadi Town Council assured me the missing/ stolen bins would be immediately replaced. Shocking surprise, where have they all gone again?

Sadly, the JICA-sponsored 3Rs civic programme is not working here in Nadi. Our authorities are not providing needed oversight in this sponsored programme. Our town fathers and associated Chamber of Commerce and Industries leaders are now reminded to pay greater detailed attention to such shortfalls in pre-requisites for a cleaner, tidier and healthier environment... and premature city status.

Rumours of construction of celebratory monuments in Nadi’s attainment of city status is a waste of valuable finances, in my humble view.

Come on, Nadi leaders. Wake up! A brandnew general cemetery for all Nadi residents, plus Correction Services for the respectful burial of our dead, plus our own rubbish dump are more important reminders/issues for our civic leaders.

The Enananu Cemetery is full. This privately given cemetery was a gift to all Nadi citizens by her charitable heart and vision. The late Mrs Ferrier-Watson’s memory must be preserved. Enamanu Cemetery must be properly maintained and well preserved too. (A primary job function for any town/city planner). In the absence of the above prerequisites, city status for Nadi is only done is haste to suit the minority few.

New city rates for all rate payers during these extremely difficult and economicallychallenging COVID-19 pandemic time will not do any good to all faithful “kai Nadis”. New rate payers will feel the true brunt of rates deemed payable. Why burden hardships now?

To the honourable and hard-working Prime Minister, please hold off Nadi’s city status until our economy returns to some acceptable semblance of normalcy.

Thousands upon thousands of younger Nadi families are suffering enormously. They no longer have jobs. Their wholesale suffering in silence must not be aggravated, nor exacerbated. They are struggling to put daily meals on their tables. We must have a heart now, more than ever before.
