$3.25m Commission Charges to BSP
The sum of $3.25 million in Commission Charges has been allocated by Government for payment to BSP for the disbursement of social welfare funds.
This was made known when Opposition MP Mikaele Leawere questioned the allocation. In response, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said Government previously used Westpac which charged $3 per transaction but now with BSP they only charge $2.80 per transaction.
He said the bank also provided rural banking facilities because some recipients receive their assistance through the Post Offices. Government pays eight per cent to Post Fiji for the redemption of assistance vouchers or money that is transferred to recipients through postal services.
