The Fiji National University (FNU) Labasa campus has joined the Labasa Town Council in its aim to keep the Northern Division clean and green.

Head of the Labasa campus, Pardeep Lal, handed over three rubbish bins to the council’s chief executive officer Sumeet Prasad. The bins are to be placed at the Dreketi Market area as this is one of the hot spot areas with movements of hundreds of people on a daily basis.

Mr Lal said the placement of rubbish bins would allow travellers and vendors to put rubbish in the right place and maintain a clean environment.

Mr Prasad thanked the university for showing such a great initiative and that Drekekti was now under Labasa Town Council jurisdiction.

“Such partnerships promote better networking and we hope all businesshouses would join in keeping the North clean and green,” Mr Prasad said.

“We need to create a culture of networking so that every individual can take responsibility to keep town and surroundings clean.”

He said the council’s town boundary areas had extended from Labasa to Wainikoro and further down to Bua and this was the reason they were looking for more partnerships.

“It doesn’t cost money to join hands to keep the North clean,” he said.
