- SIMIONE HARAVANUA Edited by Leone Cabenatabua

The Kontiki Banana Cup tournament was officially launched at the Suva Bowling Club yesterday. Over 60 bowlers will battle it out in the twoday event that gets underway tomorrow. The Banana Cup is unique since it has been played for the past 65 years.

Suva Bowling Club official Phil Lacey said the tournament would be an exciting one. “There is always a hive of activity when the Banana Cup comes around,” he said.

“It’s a national pair of eight tournaments with both men’s and women’s categories.” He added that teams from the West are coming determined to win the Cup.

“The Western teams have been practising from last week so it’s going to be tough.

“We have 60 bowlers that have registered for the tournament so expect a lot of supporters coming from all over the country.” He said the defending champions are Martin Fong and Ramesh Chand in the men’s while Litia Tikoisuva and Losalini Tukai for the women’s.
