Lynda Tabuya hails removal of data levy

-

Opposition Whip Lynda Tabuya yesterday relayed SODELPA’s support for the removal of the data levy under the Telecommunications Act of 2008.

The levy was introduced by Government last year to fund projects aimed at national development regarding information and communications technology.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said money collected from the levy went into the telecommunications trust fund.

“We have opted to remove the data levy and instead increase the current 1.5 per cent revenue based telecommunication license fee prescribed in accordance with the telecommunication licencing regulation 2012 to 2 per cent,” he said.
