Overwhelmi­ng Response As Castaway Island Reopens

Castaway Island Resort in the Mamanuca Group will increase the number of bures it will open to promote local tourism.

The resort had opened 200 bures for local tourism following the coronaviru­s crisis.

This month, the number of bures will increase to 300 following the overwhelmi­ng public response to its reopening.

Resort general manager Steven Andrews said 10 bures were booked out this weekend with 50 guests on the island.

The response follows a rigorous marketing campaign targeting embassies and expatriate­s in Suva.

“The response we got was great,” Mr Andrews said.

“We have bookings for all weekends to the end of August and it gives staff a chance to return to work to practise their skills.” Mr Andrews said the resort continued to pay its staff, even though they were on reduced hours.

“This weekend, we have between 50 to 60 staff working,” he said. “They will be here for 12 days before just

■ being rostered off and a new team come on for 12 days.

“We want to give everyone a chance to come back and be part of this.”

Rates

Bures that were previously $1300 a night, are now available for $300 a night.

The bure rates cover one night stay for two adults and two children under 12 for island bure accommodat­ion.

The rates include continenta­l breakfast, all non-motorised sport and boat transfer to and from Port Denarau Marina to the resort.

Guests must stay a minimum of two nights at the resort.

Since the resort would be opened from Friday to Monday, guests have an option to stay a third night at an extra $200.

All meals will be priced from $10 to $30.

To upgrade to ocean view bure is $25 extra, and beach bure is $35 extra a night.
