DAUGHTER OF ‘TAXI STABBING’ VICTIM DEVASTATED

Sheetal Narayan tells of how her father was allegedly attacked and vehicle stolen

Sheetal Narayan is doing her best to come to terms with news of an alleged stabbing incident which landed her father in hospital last Friday. Ms Narayan’s father, Vidya Narayan,

is a taxi driver and operator, who has been driving for the past 36 years.

She said the alleged incident took place around 3.30pm, and it was her FAtHEr’s first HorrIfiC ExpErIEnCE As a taxi driver.

“He was driving around 3.30pm when the incident happened. His

base is beside Namaka Public School. He described that the couple was young and looked like they were in their 20s,” she said.

“They hired him to go to Nasau and both of them sat at the back. Throughout the journey they weren’t talking, when they reached Nasau Road, they continuous­ly said to keep driving and all of a sudden, he felt something sharp stabbed him once on the right side of his neck.

“When he felt the stab on his neck, he jumped out of the vehicle and started running away. “My dad had mentioned that the boy was chasing him, the girl managed to get a hold of the steering wheel, when she did, they both went away with the car.

“Dad said he went to someone’s home nearby and they took him to the Nadi Hospital from there he was transferre­d to the Lautoka Hospital that same night.”

Mr Narayan is recovering at the men’s surgical ward at the Lautoka Hospital.

Police spokespers­on Ana Naisoro said the vehicle was found in Vatutu, Nadi, on Saturday. She said Police were searching for the suspects.

Meanwhile, Nadi Taxi Associatio­n president, Aslam Khan, had condemned the attack and said the associatio­n did not tolerate such actions.
