Police Win T10 Bash
The Police cricket team are the newly crowned Cricket Fiji’s T10 Bash competition. This was after they beat Army by 12 runs in a closely fought match at Albert Park, Suva on Saturday evening.
Police batted first and scored 92 runs with the loss of three wickets. In reply, Army could only manage 80 runs for eight wickets in the 10 overs.
Meanwhile, a young Lakeba side beat Ono-i-Lau to lift the Vanua Champions clash.
Lakeba scored 57 runs with the loss of three wickets in seven overs while Ono-i-Lau managed 53 runs for 10 overs.
Speaking to SUNsports Lakeba cricket manager Sevu Baba said they psyched up their young players by telling them how their grandfathers had played during their time.
“Our game plan was to go back to our traditional batting order in which a player who is connected to the chiefly Vuanirewa clan starts first,” he said.
“It really worked for us and it is always good to go back to our roots and the way our ancestors played the game. They have been following this type of game plan for years and it’s a blessing for us to follow it as well.”
Baba added they are now focused on the remaining games in the competition.
“With this win we now shift our preparations to the next round of the competition. We want to make history this season and stamp our mark in the competition.
“There are potential players and young ones that have come through our system to make it here so the plan is give these young players more game time.”
