Abus owned by Dee Cee’s Bus Services Limited caught fire just minutes before reaching the Suva Bus Stand yesterday.

Bus driver Abdul Khan, 54, said as he entered Rodwell Road around 2.30pm, he could smell something burning and knew something was wrong.

He stopped the bus in front of Bayly Clinic and told the passengers to get off.

“I saw the undercarriage of the engine had already caught fire,” he said.

Mr Khan said he used the fire extinguisher and water he had and that other bus drivers gave him the same to put out the fire.

The National Fire Authority arrived and took over, he added.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they had received the report and were investigating.
