The country’s first Fijian female air traffic controller, Theresa O’Boyle-Levestam has been appointed acting chief executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAFF).
She replaces Ajay Kumar who was also acting in that position.
Mrs O’Boyle Levestam when approached yesterday declined to comment saying the board would make a statement on her appointment.
She began her career as an air traffic control assistant in early 1992 and in 1996
“The Labasa Runway and Apron Upgrade works are part of our previously committed and continuous efforts to improve air connectivity between our islands and the mainland.
“Fiji Airports carried out the $1.7 million project to improve the runway surface and to expand the Labasa Airport apron,” she, became the first female air traffic controller in Fiji that was licensed.
In an earlier interview with the Fiji Sun, Mrs O’BoyleLevestam said women were entitled to the same opportunities as men adding such opportunities were available in Fiji on a daily basis.
“It is important that gender equality as a core value is instilled in all our children at a young age so we continue to foster a culture of gender equality. explained Fiji Airports Chairman, Geoffrey Shaw. “These runway infrastructure improvements come at a substantial cost but underline our commitment to developing our outer island airports into the future. Our passengers flying in and out of Labasa can do so with greater comfort knowing of these upgrades to the airport facilities.”
Fiji Airports had closed Labasa Airport for three weeks to allow runway upgrade and maintenance works. The Labasa
Apron Upgrade works will continue through till September.
