ransiting of goods at the ports of Suva and Lautoka continue at the same rate according to the Fiji Ports Terminal Limited (FPTL) August schedule released recently.

The last cruise ship to have arrived into Fiji was in March.

The FPTL forecast states 29 ships will call into Suva port with three calling in twice this month.

Calling in twice this month are Capitaine Wallis, MT Heracles, and Capitaine Tasman.

There will be 15 container vessels, seven tankers carrying fuel and chemicals, one clinker carrying ship, and one car carrier; and like last month another research and a navy vessel.

Research vessel that called in last month was the Yuan Wang 5

and the naval vessel was the New Zealand naval vessel

Yuan Wang 7 called into the capital city for replenishm­ent of their supplies and refueling on Monday while USS Comstock is due August 15.

The biggest vessel container vessel Shansi arrived on Sunday from Lautoka and departed yesterday.

Shansi with the Length Overall (LOA) of 200 metres is the longest

vessel to berth this month.

LOA is the maximum length of a vessel’s hull measured parallel to the waterline. This length is important while docking the ship. Shansi was in Lautoka on August 1, come to the capital city the following and then left the next day.

Meanwhile, 18 ships are expected to call in at Lautoka; 17 of them container vessels and one bulk ship.

Suva Port: August 1- 8: Capitaine Wallis, Shansi, Dahlia Harmony, MT Laperouse, Kokopo Chief, MT Heracles, MT Kiribora, Captaine Tasman and Capitaine Quiros.

Lautoka Port: August 1-8: Shansi, Capitaine Dampier, Capitain Quiros, Kokopo Chief.

The other two commercial ports Malau and Wailevu are used for the export of sugar, wood chips and bauxite.
