Peter Kjaer and Lilian Ekbom of Pacific Produce PTE Ltd from Taveuni made a successful deal with Extra Supermarket to have their new product – TaveNiu Virgin Coconut oil on the shelf.

Extra Supermarket

The managing director of Extra Supermarket, Kavishay Abhimannu added that supporting locals and Fijian made products is key with a variety of healthy choices for the consumers.

Investment Fiji assisted the business to connect with the supermarket and on approval process for business facilitation.

Pacific Produce Pte Ltd

When Pacific Produce Pte Ltd bought the Vunivasa Estate on Taveuni in May 1988, the coconuts were planted all the way down to the coast of the Tasman Straight running between Taveuni and

Qamea Island.

The emergence of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and the growing international export of VCO changed the situation.

New coconuts - pilot plot

In 2016, the Danish couple planted the first 15 acres of new coconuts as a pilot plot and throughout 2019 and 2020 a full 600 acres of coconuts have been planted.

Market

The premium product is being marketed as a cooking oil with Organic Certification for Fiji, Australia and USA.
