Man who allegedly assaulted pregnant sister remanded

A 24-year-old man who is alleged to have assaulted and struck a pregnant woman with an iron rod has been remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.

Livai Ravonu appeared before Judge Justice Vinsent Perera yesterday. Ravonu is charged with one count each of assault causing actual bodily harm and act with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He allegedly committed the offence at the weekend following an argument with his sister about their compound in Nabua on June

27. State prosecutor, Eoghn Samisoni filed and served the disclosure­s. He asked the court for 14 days to file informatio­n in the case.
