It’s rare today to see people live to be 100 years old.

But when Ram Pyari of Waiqele, Labasa, turned 100 on Tuesday, she joined a special small group.

She married at 15, has seven children and 120 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She is an amazing

Fijian. While she was raised in Labasa town she did exceptionally well after she married into a farming family.

She worked in rice and sugarcane farms in the hot sun she endured. She not only raised her own children but baby sat children from extended family.

The conditions on the farm might have been tough and even harsh at times but she fulfilled her responsibilities and came through with flying colours.

She is a great example, a champion and a legend. In fact she is an inspiration.

To live this long she must have lived healthy and continues to maintain it. But she shares the secret to her longevity is being happy.

She has a great sense of humour and quips that she doubts whether women today can handle the workload she carried during her heydays on the farm. It was a combination of hard work and a simple but healthy lifestyle.

Today, we wish her a belated happy birthday and congratulate her for an eventful and productive life.
