Cot­ter Anal­y­ses Skip­per Games

Fiji Air­ways Fly­ing Fi­jians head coach Vern Cot­ter is mon­i­tor­ing the per­for­mance of lo­cal-based play­ers in the Skip­per Cup Premier­ship.

Speak­ing to SUNs­ports, Cot­ter said this was be­ing co-or­di­nated by Fiji Rugby Union’s gen­eral man­ager High Per­for­mance Si­mon


“There are some good peo­ple on the ground in Fiji,” he said.

“We are re­ally en­joy­ing watch­ing the Skip­per Cup on Sky Tele­vi­sion at present.”

Fiji Rugby Union chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer John O’Con­nor said from an agree­ment with Sky TV, the main Skip­per Cup match of the week, which is shown live by FBC TV, is up­loaded and shown by Sky TV as a de­layed cover­age.

“The other thing we do is that all the Skip­per Cup matches from all four venues are be­ing up­loaded on video and put into a hard drive,” he said.

“This is ac­cessed by Cot­ter, the Fly­ing Fi­jians coach­ing staff and the pro­vin­cial coaches to en­able them do their anal­y­sis.

“These also in­clude the Under-19 and the women matches as well.”

Sim­ple plan

Cot­ter said the COVID-19 pan­demic had af­fected his trav­el­ling plans to Fiji es­pe­cially with the quar­an­tine reg­u­la­tions.

“With these com­pli­ca­tions a lot of work is now done through Zoom.”

Cot­ter said they were in­ter­ested in all play­ers el­i­gi­ble to play for Fiji and that in­cludes those play­ing in the Aus­tralian and New Zealand com­pe­ti­tions.

“An anal­y­sis data is be­ing gath­ered each week on these play­ers. Among them are Moses Sorovi of the Reds and Is­sak Fines of the


Cot­ter said for Fi­jian rugby to go up a notch it in­volves a sim­ple plan.

“That is to get good peo­ple to­gether. Se­lect play­ers who are pre­pared to work hard, have strong val­ues and align­ment with fam­i­lies, cul­ture and be­liefs, have fun and win games,” he said.

Mean­while, O’Con­nor con­firmed that the Skip­per Cup clash be­tween Lau­toka and Ya­sawa Mar­lin gets un­der­way at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, to­day.

He said the women’s game starts at 11am fol­lowed by the U19 at 1pm and men’s clash at 3pm.
