Rewa striker Setareki Hughes scored twice as they came from behind to beat hosts Lautoka 3-2 during the Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament at Churchill Park, on Friday night.

What happened: Lautoka fielded a changed line-up with the inclusion of veteran Valerio Nawatu and Kolinio Sivoki who returned to the field for the first time since 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Former Ba midfielder Malakai Rakula made his official debut for the Blues as well.

Lautoka took the lead with a wellplaced kick by veteran Netani Doli. Rewa had other ideas with their fast attacking players as Hughes pounced on a loose ball inside the Lautoka box to slot in the equaliser.

In the 47th minute Rewa defender Peniame Drova headed in the second goal after a lightning counterattack.

Halftime: Rewa 2-1 Lautoka. Lautoka had the chance to level the game but Sivoki’s penalty attempt hit the post.

Rakula finally got his breakthrough when he rifled the ball past hapless Rewa goalkeeper Senirusi Bokini to level the scores at 2-2.

Lack of fitness seemed to take its toll on Lautoka as Rewa kept on the pressure.

But it was in the dying moment when Anish Khem set-up Hughes to score the winning goal.

Star turn: Hughes goals came in crucial stages of the match that resulted in the win.

Big moment: Rewa’s counter attacks troubled the Lautoka defenders as they struggled to keep up with the pace of the their strikers.

Comments: Rewa coach Marika Rodu said; “We knew what to expect when you play Lautoka on their home ground.”

Lautoka soach Ravinesh Kumar said: “We have to regroup but Rewa is a champion side. We will bounce back.”
