Blues out, Navua still in

- NICOLETTE CHAMBERS Edited by Leone Cabenatabua

The Navua football side sent the sugar city fans into mourning with a well-deserved 3-1 upset win over Lautoka at Churchill Park yesterday.

This is their second loss in Group B and it means Lautoka virtually have no chance of qualifying for next weekend’s Punjas Battle of the Giants semi-finals.

Today they take on Nadi in their final group match.

A disappointed Lautoka coach Ravinesh Kumar said defensive blunders cost them the match.

“We made too many errors,” he said.

What happened: Navua came out with all guns blazing and were determined to pull off an upset win. Veteran Navua defender Seveci Rokotakal opened the scoring from a direct free kick in the 6th minute. Lanky striker Apisai Smith extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 26th minute.

Halftime: Lautoka 0-2 Navua. In the second spell Navua stepped up and refused to dwell on their halftime lead which saw Thomas Dunn slotting in their third goal. Lautoka drew one back through Kolinio Sivoki but this was too late as time was not on their side.
