Two years of hard work to build their family home in Tuvu, Lautoka have gone to ruins for a family of six.

This was after their four-bedroom home was destroyed in a fire at around 7.30am yesterday.

Home owner, Jessica Simpson recalled what happened, while was in her garden, when the started.

“It happened about 7.30 or 7.45 this morning, my husband and I was outside watering the garden, the only people in the house were my four-year-old boy and my bedridden mother,” said Ms Simpson. “Our garden is in the slope below, when the fire started, we weren’t she fire aware and then he went up to water the top garden and even then, he didn’t realise there was a fire. When he went inside the house, he saw our bed was in flames and that’s when he started screaming. “We didn’t manage to save anything, only the clothes on our back. “My only worry was to get my mum out, after that all we could do was to stand back and watch.”

Ms Simpson said the estimated cost of damage would be around $400,000 to $500,000.

“Right now I can’t think, I don’t know what to do, I don’t know where to start, I’m blank,” she added.

A Police report stated that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. Investigations continue.
