More than 80 businesses have registered through the M-PAiSA’s QR Pay with Vodafone.

And 520 Fiji outlets are now accepting the M-PAiSA’s QR as a payment option.

This was disclosed by Vodafone Fiji head of e-commerce, Shailendra Prasad, during the launch of the second batch of 10 per cent discount promotion in Suva yesterday. Four businesses who have recently registered and partnered with Vodafone are;

■Raiwaqa Bakery,

■Coffee Bean,

■Mad Hatter Hut and

■Wing Sang Company Pte Limited.

Mr Prasad said if one visits any of these businesses and makes a payment using M-PAiSA QR, you are entitled to a 10 per cent discount on the purchase price.

This has been a norm for Vodafone Fiji in terms of businesses who are adopting the cashless payment options, he said.

“Many M-PAiSA users are finding it valid and convenient in making payments and shop around,” Mr Prasad said.

He said during this pandemic a lot of the businesses went through various modes in terms of complete to partial lockdown, and some have been offering services online.

“So businesses have basically evolved and many have been forced to think differently to be able to survive in this very difficult operating environment.

“One of the places where a lot of businesses want to issue or offer their services through online.” He said because remote payment was not possible to a lot of people.

“Particularly given the fact that in Fiji credit and debit card penetration is very low. Around seven to eight per cent of the population has credit cards.

“So a lot of people, while they wish to shop online, are not able to do online shopping because of the payment medium that they have access to.”

M-PAiSA offers quite convenient payment options to pay either over the counter using the QR pay or remotely from anywhere to the MPAiSA app, he said.

He said businesses have now realised the importance of adopting technology in the business in order to reach out to the consumers.

“If you want to engage with the customers you have to think differently on what we used to do on preCOVID.”
