Swire Shipping Limited (SSL) when contacted could only confirm that they were the local agents for the vessel.

PCPL chief executive officer (CEO) Sowani Tuidrola confirmed that the clinker were designated for their Lami factory.

Clinker is an important component in the making of cement. It is a dark grey nodular material made by heating ground limestone and clay at a temperature of about 1400 °C – 1500 °C.

The nodules are ground up to fine powder to produce cement, with a small amount of gypsum added to control the setting properties.

Work at cement factories is deter

Fiji’s cement industry consists of Pacific Cement Ltd, which owns a 0.215Mta grinding plant at Lami, and Tengy Cement (Fiji) Co Ltd, which operates a 0.3Mta grinding plant in Lautoka.

Dahlia Harmony was built in last year and is sailing under the flag of Liberia.

It’s carrying capacity is 38582 t DWT and her current draught is reported to be 9.5 meters.

Her length overall (LOA) is 179.99 meters and her width is 30 meters.

Meanwhile 11 bulk vessels and tankers have called into the Port of Suva the last week.
