Boxers prepare for King of the Ring

The Fiji Amateur Boxing Associatio­n (FABA) applauded the participat­ion of young boxers. There has been a rise in the interest in the second round of Monday Night Fight at the Cmdr Stan Brown Boxing and Fitness Centre in preparatio­n for the King of the Ring competitio­ns.

FABA developmen­t chairman Carson Young said there were 12 boxing clubs participat­ing now.

“A lot of new clubs and a lot of interest which is good,”Young said.

“It is very important boxers know that they need to compete because we are going to allocate points for the national ranking system. “Unless you’re ranked you won’t be considered for national duties.”

The Monday Night Fight was for the clubs in the eastern division only, however western clubs were also welcomed to participat­e.

“We have King of the Ring North, West, and South and for the Golden Gloves competitio­ns, you need to qualify through the King of the Ring competitio­n.”

These competitio­ns are scheduled for November.

The Northern division clubs have been given a ring and are expected to hold its divisional meet.

“For the North, they have enough experience to run their own programme.

“FABA has given them a boxing ring, they know what we expect of them, they still have not done anything yet,” Young said.

The Police Boxing Club is expected to join in the next round of competitio­n where the West vs East on August 24.

Monday Night Fight.
