Vodafone Cup Competition In Nadi

The 2020 Vodafone Cup rugby league competition was launched at Albert Park, Suva yesterday.

And Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) acting chief executive officer Don Natabe said they would be giving out 1000 free tickets to those affected by COVID-19 pandemic. The first round of matches will be played at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on Saturday where the defending champs Ravoravo Rabbitohs face Saru Dragons in the main game.

“It has been five months without any game, and now we are looking forward to the opening match in Nadi,” Natabe said.

“We will give away 1000 free tickets to fans who are affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

“They need to produce a working identification card (ID) and present it at the gates from 9am to 12 pm.” Natabe said that they would adhere strictly to the COVID – 19 protocols as per Government’s advisory in allowing only 50 per cent of fans at Prince Charles Park.

FNRL chairman and Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto commended local and overseas players for their contribution over the years.

“This year we embark on a very ambitious goal to bring home the Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) 2021,” he said.

“The Fiji Residents who play in the Vodafone Cup will have a chance to prove themselves before our national team selectors.

“And I do wish the very best to the team captains and fellow players in the Vodafone Cup 2020.

“It is also very heartening to see our Fiji Bati players doing well in the National Rugby League competition in Australia.

“I invite our rugby league fans in Sigatoka, Nadi and Lautoka to come down to Nadi on Saturday.

Vodafone chief executive officer, Ronald Prasad acknowledged 14 years of partnership with FNRL. “COVID – 19 has tested many boundaries and forced many decisions to be made, sponsorship suspended, championships suspended, players and officials taking pay cuts,” he said.

“We are grateful for FNRL’s understanding, support and loyalty shown to Vodafone Fiji as a sponsor. “Our partnership with FNRL has produced many amazing results over the years for players and for Fiji, “Prasad said.

There are 26 clubs taking part in the Vodafone Cup competition.

Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for children. It is available at the Vodafone outlet, Tappoo City, Lautoka and at the Nadi Town Council office.
