Two patients have been discharged from the isolation units after recovering from COVID-19.

Confirming this, acting permanent secretary for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Dr James Fong said, the two cases were classified as mild cases where the patients had very low fever or remain asymptomatic.

Fiji now has six active cases of COVID-19, all of which are border quarantine cases.

“We have a very different discharge plan when it comes to patients with mild symptoms. This plan is scientifically proven,” Dr Fong said.

“After 10 days from the initial test, if the patients do not show any symptoms for three consecutive days following the 10 days, we discharge them and declare them fully recovered.”

He said of the six that were still in the isolation unit, one was in a serious condition.

All the six cases were from India as these patients had gone for medical treatment before the global pandemic.

Dr Fong said while community transmission had been eliminated, the Ministry urges Fijians to do their part and continue following COVID-19 guidelines such as social distancing and washing of hands.
