The use of CareFIJI mobile application is mandatory in all businesses approved in the Fijian COVID Safe Economic Recovery Framework. Non-compliance could end up in the closure of business.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services will look at closing businesses that do not comply with the guidelines says acting permanent secretary Dr James Fong.

Meanwhile, Government has set guidelines to allow a safe environment in businesses, supermarkets, gyms, clubs, places of worship, restaurants, cafes, schools and child care facilities.

One of the areas in the guideline is the monitoring of the CareFIJI contact tracing mobile application and recording of contact details of customers and patrons.

Dr Fong said spot checks would be carried out and warning letters would be issued.

If there were no improvements, then closing of businesses would be an option.

Contact tracing is a proven method of controlling COVID-19 if community transmission does occur.

Also in the guidelines; it is stated that: “Where possible, contact information must be kept on all clients, workers and contractors, including names, addresses and mobile phone numbers. Ensure records are used only for the purposes of tracing COVID-19 infections and are captured and stored confidentially and securely.

“Use of CareFIJI app is mandatory and should be prominently displayed at the premises on how to download the CareFIJI app.”
