Robust centre Sesenieli Donu scored two tries as her Arrow Concrete Lautoka side beat Nadi 29-10 of the Skipper Cup Women’s competition at Prince Charles Park, Nadi yesterday.

The bonus point win boosts Lautoka’s chances of making the top four as they have won three of their four matches so far.

What happened: Donu scored Lautoka’s first try in the 15th minute from a good break in the Nadi territory while the conversion missed.

In the 39th minute Lautoka hooker Maria Marara bulldozed herself over the try line with first five eighth Vasita Ramotiqa kicking over the conversion. Halftime: Lautoka 12-0 Nadi. In the 53rd minute Nadi used their big forwards as they drove their way to the try line where flanker Amelia Ara was able to dot down their first try. The conversion missed as they trailed 12-5.

In the 62nd minute Lautoka winger Taraivini Adiraba ran in their third try after they had spun the ball out wide with Ramotiqa adding the extras to extend their lead 19-5.

Donu scored her second and bonus point try in the 67th minute with the conversion going wide.

With the 24-5 lead, Lautoka controlled the tempo of the game and managed their fifth try to further their lead 29-5.

The Nadi backline capitalised on a loose ball and quickly spun the ball wide to centre Ilimaina Wai to score in the corner but was too late.

Star turn: Adiraba’s try in the 62nd minute took the fire out of the Nadi side as they target for an upset win.

Comments: Lautoka captain Karalaini Naisewa said: “It was a tough game and all the girls did their best. We will now prepare for our next match against Namosi.”

Meanwhile, the Nadi men’s rugby team went down to Lautoka 22-20. Full story in tomorrow’s edition.
