Fans are in for another congested weekend of rugby. While fans in Viti Levu are enjoying four rounds of the Skipper Cup Premiershi­p so far, fans in Vanua Levu would get their chance to see their players in action at Subrail Park,Labasa, Ganilau Park, Savusavu when the Vodafone Vanua Championsh­ip kicks off this Saturday.

Likewise Theodore Park and FSC ground in Rakiraki will be the venues for the Vatukoula-Ra clash for the eastern zone fans while Navosa High School and Uprising Ground in Pacific Harbour is where western zone teams Malolo-Navosa and Serua-Ba will play respective­ly. The 16 teams compete in four pools for a home and away round robin competitio­n before crossing over for the semi-finals and finals series.

The top placed teams in each conference contest the semi-finals and finals and the top two teams for the Vodafone Vanua Championsh­ip will be promoted to the Skipper Cup in 2021.

Teams are already camping and gearing up for kickoff and its timely that fans show up and support their Vanua teams.

The teams taking part are: Northern-Ovalau, Bua, Cakaudrove, Macuata; Central-Nasinu, Northland, Rewa, Naitasiri Bulls; EasternVat­ukoula,

Malolo, Nanukuloa,Ra, Tavua; Western-Navosa, Malolo, Ba, Serua.

Nasinu targets Skipper

The Ram Sami Nasinu Premier 15s weekly competitio­n resumed yesterday with 13 clubs taking part.

Nasinu Rugby Football Union coach Usaia Biumaiwai eagerly stated their desire to play in the Skipper Cup competitio­n next year.

And they need to beat central zone teams Rewa, Northland and Naitasiri Bulls.

Biumaiwai said: “We’ve been preparing well for the Vanua competitio­n. We beat the Tailevu Two team and won 12 -7 in our build up. We have been working on our weaknesses, especially our finishing. We are targeting to play in the Skipper Cup next year and it requires hard work from the get go from all concerned.”

New clubs joining Nasinu should boost the side.

The former national prop and Nasinu Rugby president said: “There are about five new clubs that have joined us this year, two from Tailevu, one from Ra and one from Waidina. It’s a good start and we’re happy with the turnout. We thank our major sponsor Ram Sami for being there for us for the last three years. We have a good relationsh­ip with them and hope to continue our partnershi­p in the future.”
