India Independence celebration

-

On 15th August 2020, India celebrated its 74th Independence. It has been a turbulent march since 1947 when the British were forced to grant India independence. The Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and the Royal Indian Military revolt left British no choice but to quit.

Thousands of returning Indian soldiers after the Second World War and their joining the Indian National Army of Subhas Chand Bose made British stay in India unsustainable.

Well history aside, the Indian Independence celebrations 2020 amidst the coronavirus pandemic was unique. There was no usual pomp and show of the military might or gathering of thousands of Indians to mark the occasion. The ceremonies were scaled down to ensure social distancing for all those who gathered. However, the hero of the occasion was the

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who was immaculately dressed in his orange streaked turban, unfurling the national flag and then delivering a thundering speech from the rampart of the Red Fort in New Delhi.

He touched on India’s fight against COVID-19 and the huge changes which have taken place. He talked of India’s dream of becoming self-sustaining in all sectors of national life.

Dramatic developments in health, education, defence and infrastructure are already taking place. The massive increase in spread of communications technology and provision of electricity and water to all Indian villages as being paramount.

With its massive mineral and youthful human resources and development of skills it is poised to become the next super power.

Over the years India has provided thousands of scholarships to Fijian students who are now serving the nation with great pride.

Our respected Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, has already congratulated India on Independence Day Celebrations!
