unity policies in bid to lead SODELPA into 2022 poll
Aseri Radrodro wants to address issues that constrain people from fully participating in national development. The SODELPA MP and Opposition Deputy Whip has disclosed his vision in his bid to secure the party leader role for the 2022 General Election.
He is one of three top contenders hoping to knock off incumbent Sitiveni Rabuka from his perch. The others are MP Viliame Gavoka and business entrepreneur Pio Tabaiwalu. He is hoping that his vision will help convince those in the selection panel to give him the nod. The three believe they have a chance because of the constitutional question that hangs over Mr Rabuka’s bid for a second term after he lost the 2018 elections. Mr Radrodro has been encouraged by supporters and a number of constituencies to contest the party leader role. They see him as a bridge between the young and the old generation and matured to articulate important national issues through experience and hard work. He is respected by the rank and file for his strong advocacy on good governance, 1) The wealth disparity of our indigenous population in terms of being asset rich and cash poor,
(2) The issue of land security for our other Fiji nationals.
“That would be the priority in order to gain peace and stability. Issues of national development via job creation and investment growth will obviously be one of my priorities as well,” he says.
“As a leader, I must project decisiveness and consistency in order to gain the trust of our people and I can do that by ensuring my channels of communication are always open and accessible. “The important issue as well is that when we understand governance and policies, we are able to make the necessary decisions that benefit everyone. Having good advisers is the key to any national leadership and I intend to run a tight ship.
“Overall as someone whose worked in both the private and public sector and have a proven track record of winning, having won my seat in parliament on both instances when I contested in
2014 and in 2018, it is this winning streak that I intend to bring with me as the leader of SODELPA.
“I look forward also if succesful to crucially, unite the party and give our young and older generations alike, dignity to live better lives and be champions and survivors where with the resources we are all blessed with, we can contribute by being either entrepreneurs or workers, we can be self sustaining and lead exemplanary lives.
“There is something about hard work that gives us a natural sense of achievement and it is this principle that I aspire to encourage and lead.
“Personally, I am also of the view that as leaders we must be able to accept our flaws and acknowledge that we will not always know the answers thus we must develop a habit of consulting and trusting in our people.
“If accepted as party leader my vision includes developing the local talents and skills of our people and thus I would encourage the hiring of our own people over expatriates.”
