Re-look at curriculum for vibrancy

Education is an exciting, dynamic and fulfilling field to be in.
Teachers for early childhood education, primary and secondary school will be in high demand in the years to come. Therefore, we need to re-look at our education curriculum to add a few more richness and vibrancy in the classrooms across our nation.
Looking at the talents of some of our young people, it is high time the Curriculum Development Unit in collaboration with Ministry of Education and universities around the country develop and add full time Drama and Dance together with the current core subjects like Physical Education, Art and Craft and Music.
This will enrich the development and potential of our young people.
Our current Music curriculum does not contain the principle and elements of drama and dance except for the inclusions and mention of traditional dances.
Just to shed some light, dance and drama teaches teamwork, focus, and improvisational skills. Dance and drama awakens new perceptions in children which help them learn and think in new ways.
It is one area where children will be able to express and communicate their ideas in other areas of curriculum in form of story telling or talanoa as introduced in our Pacific way of living!
These areas will also give the opportunity to the young people to make creative decisions even at a young age.
And a nation with young age with vigor and creative thinkers is what we need in the development process to shape our nation as a paragon on the world stage.
Let’s introduce and bring change for the betterment of our young and talented generation!
