Tara Mati, 70, is a happy woman after the Nasinu Scouts Council rebuilt her home.

Her house in Narere, Nasinu was partially destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Harold in April.

The widow was left devastated after she lost her house.

“My son is the only breadwinner in the family and earns from grass cutting which was not enough to fix our house. This worries me,” she said.

Ms Mati said she did not expect the Scouts Council to assist her in rebuilding her home and she was overwhelmed.

Council’s District Commissioner Lognadan Goundan said the team immediately took actions to rebuild Ms Mati’s home a few days after the cyclone.

“Two of the council members arranged finance from good Samaritans to assist the project financially,” he said.

He said the CDP Courier Services Managing Director Sashi Singh contributed some cash towards the construction.

“Scouts Council took an initiative to demolish and started with groundwork before inviting the Engineers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) who helped in building the structure of the house,” Mr Goundan said.

“We invested around $5,000 in this project and the house was completed after two months,” he said. He said the community saw what was done and they helped provide Ms Mati with groceries.

“Towards the completion of construction, the Director of Ansh’s Furniture, Pranish Swami kindly donated newly built kitchen cabinets to Ms Mati’s new home,” Mr Goundan said.
