Eels 50 cents pledge

Nadi Eels players pledge 50 cents daily to assist teammates attend training.

This is how the Trevor Cleary coached side is tackling the impact of COVID19 in the community.

The Eels will take on undefeated Sabeto Roosters during Vodafone Cup round three of the Western State Zone clash at Prince Charles Park, Nadi which kicks-off at 1.45pm.

Cleary said: “During these tough times, the boys donate 50 cents to allow other players to come to train and return home. A lot of the boys are affected especially those affected in the tourism industry.”

“The whole purpose of playing rugby league is to help and serve our community.”

The side lost 12-14 to Saru Dragons last week while three-time champion Sabeto Roosters outplayed Yasawa Saints 22-4.

“We are just a small team in the Namaka area up against a mighty team that represents the whole of Sabeto,” he said.

“We know they are favourites but we’ve a good group of boys from Namaka -Martintar corridor and some from the Flying School.”

The side boasts Iona Varamusu (captain), Eseroma Turaga, Kenneth Hughes, Liam Kikau and Erevono Tuinale to name a few.
