Lautoka pool operations under Construction Implementation Unit
Operations for the Lautoka swimming pools are now being overseen by the Construction Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Economy.
Head of the Construction Implementation Unit, Mohammed Intaz Shah, said appropriate steps were being taken.
“We’ve met with the respective stakeholders and the matter for one is before the court by one of the stakeholders, but the agreement that we have come up with all other stakeholders is that we will go for a peer review,” he said. He said the peer review was expected to take about two to three months.
“So a peer review of the entire project will then take us to or guide us in terms of a way forward and what needs to be carried out,” he said.
After a joint investigation by the Lautoka City Council and the Ministry of Local Government, an announcement was made in June that there would be new calls for tenders, however, Mr Shah said the process had been designated to the relevant stakeholders
“We have given it to respective ministries because according to the official circular the line, minister needs to endorse the engagement of consultant and peer review is a consultant, so once that line minister endorses it then it will be advertised in the papers for peer review.”
Mr Shah said at the moment no construction was taking place, however, the facility was in the custody of the Lautoka City Council at the moment.
“Our respective officers are going down to visit the site definitely; it’s on a monthly visit to see the city council maintains the facility well,”
