Resident Claims Homes Attacked by Robbers

- SALOTE QALUBAU LAUTOKA Edited by Jonathan Bryce

Lovu, Lautoka resident Paul Mudaliar said his family’s home was one of the six that had been targeted so far by a group of teenage boys robbing houses at night.

“The first incident happened a month ago for me when my house was stoned, but the latest one happened just this past Sunday,” he said.

Neighbours alerted Mr Mudaliar that a man with a cane knife was standing outside his home last Sunday night.

“I came outside with the flashlight and nothing else and this person came towards me with the cane knife, that’s when my wife told me to come inside and we tried to lock ourselves inside, but the boy smashed our glass door with the cane knife, injuring my wife’s hand,” he said.

He described the man as an adolescent male who worked with a group.

“Luckily my cousins ran and chased him and he ran into the cane field to escape, but while this was happening my cousins were calling the Police but no one responded,” he said.

“After my home was robbed, another home was targeted by the same people, then afterwards they robbed one of the warehouses and stole construction material like grinders.”

He said he has written a letter to the Government and sent a message to the Police.

“Police told me they will send a vehicle but till now they have not come to my house. My wife is scared and we have to check our compound every night because we are afraid,” he said.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that no report had been lodged.
