- LAISEANA NASIGA SUVA Feedback: laiseana.nasiga@fijisun.com.fj

Consumers have become more astute and prudent in their purchases now. There have been a lot of reductions and specials advertised for Father’s Day specials in the past month.

The consumers are getting the best deals at the moment coupled with some reductions in duties and tariffs however consumers need to be informed of the best deals.

New norm

Suva retailers association president, Vinay Kumar, said the retail sector has been subdued since early March and many shops were operating on reduced hours, opening and closing hours have changed.

“Suva has been the commercial and the

Government hub of Fiji, including the fact that all overseas missions including NonGovernment Organisations based in Suva are lucky that employment is still a bit stable even with reduced hours for many workers in the retail sector.

“However, business is substantially down for many small to medium retailers who are struggling to keep their heads above water,” he said.

COVID-19 free

Mr Kumar said Fiji is COVID-19 contained, people need to be more appreciative and grateful for what they have during this Father’s Day.

“Sometimes fathers are overlooked and underappreciated for the work they do.

“In many instances, the fathers are the patriarch of a family and right now, in these difficult times, a bit of spoiling of fathers on Father’s Day will go a long way.

“We wish all the hard-working fathers in Fiji a Happy Father’s Day,” he said.
