Families use holiday as opportunity for strong family bonding

Families flocked to the beaches around Suva yesterday to celebrate Fiji’s seventh anniversary of the 2013 Fijian Constitution.

Teila Bola of Makoi was with her family and relatives at the Nasese foreshore enjoying the beautiful Suva weather.

Ms Bola said family outings were also a time for bonding. “Family is everything and we need to spend as much time as we

possibly can with them making memories and treasuring them with important life lessons for our children and their future,” she said.

“For me, celebrating Constitution Day means a day where we are reminded about our country’s laws and the constitution made to govern a country and safeguard its citizens.”

“The pandemic restrictions have kept families apart and with the relaxation of numbers that can convene is an opportunity for families to catch up and strength

en their bonds and relationship. “With everything that is going on around the world, one thing I have noticed is the drastic change in children’s attitude towards their elders.

“There is less respect for elders and I hope that this Constitution Day will help everyone realise the right path to take for a better future,” Ms Bola said.

Meanwhile, for some University of the South Pacific students, they spent Constitution Day by continuing a worthy cause.

The university students planted 100 trees including fruit and native trees at the Navikiwalu Farm in Dreketi village, Rewa.

USP Bachelor of Education final year student, Alumeci Wara said contributing to Government’s 30 million trees in 15 years tree planting initiative was everyone’s responsibility.

To date, a total of 2.3 million trees have been planted across Fiji in just 20 months, these trees have been planted on 2000 hectares of land.
